The Original Alternative Private Members Club founded in Wild & Wonderful Soho in 1764

“The Club” was first formed in 1764 when Samuel Johnson, David Garrick and Joshua Reynolds formed a supper club where they would meet and discuss the issues of the day with fine food and wine.

Nearly 200 years later in 1992, “Blacks Club” was founded by Tom Bantock, a famous Norfolk poacher. It was named Blacks Club as the antithesis to White’s Club, London’s oldest gentlemen’s club; it is said that many Blacks Club members had been black-balled from White’s or considered black sheep. Blacks Club over the next 20 years would become a famously ‘louche’ bohemian drinking den for many of London’s creatives and a notorious Supper Club venue in the heartbeat of Dean Street, Soho.

The Blacks Club Brand is owned by award winning chef & author Luke Thomas, who at 18 became the UK’s Youngest Head Chef. He went on to appear in TV Show’s Such as Great British Menu, This Morning, Junior MasterChef and was the author of Luke’s Cookbook published by Penguin.

Luke is the chef & owner of brands Cafe Habana, Sessions Market, V DTLA as well as Blacks Club. He has spent many summers cooking up feasts at music festivals around the UK and this year is bringing his take on Modern British Cooking to The Pop Up Hotel at Glastonbury.

Blacks Club is curating the weekends food, beverage & entertainment. Food will be a celebration of the best produce available in Somerset with Luke’s modern take on British Cuisine. Throughout the festival week we will soon be announcing a roster of pop-ups & supper clubs which will be a culinary melting pot of cuisines & some of the countries most exciting chefs.
