Just 250 days to go until Glastonbury 2022 at the time of writing and as usual around this time of year, the rumour mill is warming up nicely. The pondering and pontification are an essential part of the slow burn build up to the big experience.

Speculation is rife, tour dates with Glasto sized gaps are being published and the self-confirmations or denials will gather speed.

One question is, will any of the headliners booked for 2020 carry over?

If so, then we could see Paul McCartney, who hasn’t played the festival since 2004 and was scheduled for the Saturday night spot in 2020.

The legend spot was confirmed as the amazing Diana Ross, whose tour dates would allow for a Sunday sing-along in Somerset - fingers crossed.

US rapper Kendrick Lamar was also confirmed for last year, as was Taylor Swift who would have closed the festival on the Sunday evening spot.

We already know Billie Eilish will become the youngest solo headliner to date when she appears on the Friday evening Pyramid slot in 2022. But who else will be taking to the legendary stage during the weekend?

Here are some of the strong contenders so far:

Aerosmith
The group updated their tour dates earlier this year to include and then remove Glastonbury. They will be in the UK in the summer of 2022 and will be playing Manchester on 28th June, so it’s a possibility.

Candi Staton
The American singer songwriter was asked to play Glastonbury 2020 and 2021 and has said that she hoped to be back in 2022. Young hearts certainly run free at Glasto, so here’s hoping.

Elton John
The Rocket Man’s tour date list is clear for the festival weekend and rumours are flying, so there’s a chance that he could be landing at Glastonbury next summer.

Fatboy Slim
A Glastonbury favourite and regular, Fatboy Slim is rumoured to play at least one set at the festival next year, with the whole of June free in his schedule so far.

Noel Gallagher
The ex-Oasis singer songwriter had envisaged spending this year writing, 2022 recording and wasn’t planning on touring until 2023 but has said that if Glastonbury called, he’d do it.

Queens of the Stone Age
Having played Glastonbury in 2002 and 2011, QOTSA are rumoured to be returning to headline the Other stage on the Friday evening in 2022.

Others who seem to be keeping the Glasto weekend dates free include The Pet Shop Boys, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Kings of Leon, Foo Fighters and Wolf Alice.

With the Billie Eilish announcement and Crowded House, Monsieur Doumani and Papaphone already self-confirmed, there’s still plenty of speculation and conjecture to come.

If you want to stay up to date,  the Glastonbury 2022 line-up and rumour list over at GlastoFestFeed is a pretty good way to follow the line-up as it rolls out.
