The Glastonbury Festival 2016 Rumour Mill

Keep up to date rumours and gossip for Glastonbury Festival 2016. We will scour the web, social chatter and official news outlets for news of the potential artists who will entertain us at the world famous Somerset based festival.

14th December 2015 - Grimes reportedly confirmed for Glastonbury 2016

Since releasing her debut album in 2010, Grimes (Claire Elise Boucher), a Canadian artist known for her eclectic mix of styles, has amassed an almost cult following. After opening for the Lana Del Rey – The Endless Summer Tour, Grimes announced that she will be embarking on her Uk tour early in 2016. Her music, think Enya crossed with ABBA and Bjork, we believe, is perfectly suited to Glastonbury Festival and if the rumours are true we doubt that many people in the UK will not know who she is this time next year.

23rd November 2015 - Rhianna announces "Anti World Tour"

rihanna anti tour dates

Although never out of the headlines, Rhianna has been very quiet on the music front whilst working on her new Album until this latest announcement. Starting in North America in early 2016, the European leg of the "Anti World Tour" starts in June 2016 with a glaringly obvious gap over the 22nd/23rd of June, right at the start of Glastonbury Festival 2016, and also over the 25th/26th June, which would mean Rhi-Rhi could close the festival before heading off to Glasgow.

What do we think?

2nd November 2015 - Stone Roses headlining Glastonbury 2016?

Stone roses200 200

William Hill have suspended all bets on The Stone Roses to headline at Glastonbury Festival 2016 after a sudden rush on bets over the weekend. In the past, this has indicated that an announcement is due, but we have heard this all before. In 1996 the band split and in 1995 pulled out of headlining the event. Social Media is awash with talk of them making a return for next years event so we will be keeping our ears to the ground for more news.

More here.

20th October 2015 - Ed Sheeran vows to headline Glastonbury - Just not in 2016!

Ed 200 200

Ed was recently asked about his plans for touring and festivals in the future and surprised everyone with his response. “The next festival I do will be headlining Glastonbury, but it just won’t be next year”, Ed revealed to the Press Association this week. “I want to be able to have at least three or four albums before I do it.” We are disappointed he won't be there next year but are comforted that he will be back with more great music soon. Thank you CapitalFM for the heads-up.

4th October 2015 - Coldplay favourite to headline for the 4th time

Coldplay200 200

The Independent picked up William Hill claiming that Coldplay are favourites to play at next years Glastonbury Festival. This flies in the face of Ladbrokes recent announcement that Adele and The Foo Fighters were their favourites. William Hill odds currently place Coldplay at 4/1, Adele at 5/1 and The Foo Fighters at 6/1. We also see Kate Bush at 33/1 - now that would be amazing!

22nd September 2015 - Adele Rumoured to be headlining

UK Bookies Ladbrokes report that they have received an influx of bets over a 24 hour period for Adele to headline at Glastonbury. We do know that the award winning singer/songwriter has not released an album since the critically acclaimed "21" and her next album is rumoured to be released later this year. A good showing at Glastonbury Festival 2016 would bring a great boost to sales.

Thanks to The Independent for the heads-up on this rumour. - Read more here

11th September 2015 - Muse Announce 2016 World Tour (suspiciously ends just before Glastonbury Festival begins)

Source:Gigwise  Photo:WENN

Muse have played at the festival before so this will not be a new experience to them, or their loyal fans. They are certainly not a band to hold back when putting on a gig and their performance in 2010, was truly something to behold, receiving rave reviews. Their 2016 World Tour will see them playing 10 dates in Europe ending in June, just a few weeks before #glasto2016 begins on Wednesday 22 June.

5 April - Dublin, Ireland, 3Arena

8 April - Manchester, England, Manchester Arena

11 & 12 April - London, England, The O2

17 April - Glasgow, Scotland, SSE Hydro

2 May - Lisbon, Portugal, MEO Arena

5 May - Madrid, Spain, Barclaycard Center

14 & 15 May - Milan, Italy, Mediolarum Forum

4 June - Prague, Czech Republic, O2 Arena

UPDATE: 30th September 2015

Q-Magazine recently had the honour of interviewing Muse.

Asked by Q’s Simon Goddard if Muse would be up for playing the Glastonbury Festival in 2016, bassist Chris Wolstenholme confirms they’re very interested.

“I think we would play Glasto every year if we could!” he declares. “It’s probably the best festival in the world. We’re all hoping we get to do it on this album. It’s been a while.”

This confirms that they are not headlining yet but will if asked.

8th September 2015 - Michael Eavis lets slip to BBC Radio reporter Sinead Garvan that 4 of the 6 headline acts for the next two festivals are booked

Makes sense right. The biggest and best acts are always touring or in the studio recording new music resulting in very tight schedules. Makes you wonder how long ago headliners for 2015, Kanye West and The Who were booked!

4th September 2015 - Miley Cyrus for President  to headline the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury 2016

After Kanye West making an appearance at the 2015 festival, anything is possible right? This one, however, is being reported by the tabloids so don't read too much into it! Never far from the news headlines Miley could be a controversial addition to the line up that the organisers really don't need. Can she really be ignored after such huge hits as Wrecking Ball and We can't Stop? Michael Eavis has stated in the past there is a shortage of big name acts that he can choose from and it might be out of pure desperation that we see the Bangerz artist visiting Somerset for the first time. Controversial for sure.
